Two women who reportedly assaulted another woman at a St James-based nightclub in March were freed on Wednesday after their case was settled through mediation.

Isheka Thomas and Vanessa Ewers were before the St James Parish Court on the charge of unlawful wounding.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, presiding parish judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce advised the complainant to try attending mediation with the two defendants and a trained counsellor to settle their differences, otherwise the matter would have to be tried in the Supreme Court.

The complainant agreed to attend mediation, following which Grant-Pryce made a no-order ruling to stop the case from being committed to the higher court. The case was then stood down while the parties attended mediation.

When the matter was later recalled, it was disclosed that Thomas, Ewers, and the complainant had come to an agreement

Following that declaration, Grant-Pryce made a no-evidence motion in the matter against Thomas and Ewers.

According to the allegations in the case, on March 29, the two defendants got into a dispute with the complainant at a nightclub in Montego Bay, where they were all employed.

The dispute escalated into a fight, during which Ewers reportedly hit the complainant in the face, while Thomas stabbed her twice in the neck and once in the arm with a pair of scissors. The complainant reportedly managed to defend herself against Thomas’ additional stabbing attacks by using her phone to shield herself.

A report was made to the police, and Thomas and Ewers were subsequently arrested and charged.
