McGregor tells PNP supporters 'don't watch any polls'
People's National Party (PNP) caretaker for Kingston Central, Steve McGregor, has told party supporters not to pay attention to poll findings suggesting that PNP President Mark Golding's favourability has slipped while Jamaica Labour Party Leader Andrew Holness' has increased.
He was speaking at the PNP's East Rural St Andrew constituency conference at the Bedward Gardens playground on Sunday night.
"We are going to make it work this time. Don't watch any polls. Don't watch what you hear anybody a seh, the PNP's thing turn up big time," McGregor said.
He was responding to a recent Don Anderson poll that suggested that Holness enjoys a 7.5 per cent lead over Golding when it comes to public favourability.
"You see the kind of support that we are giving out to each other as your representatives, that is the kind of support that I want you to give to your MP candidate. You did this for sister Vivienne and you won, but that was the beginning of the job, the bigger piece of the job is now," said McGregor.
He was referring to PNP candidate for the Kintyre division Vivienne Brown-Bond's win in last year's local government elections, while urging support for the party's representative in the constituency, Patrick Peterkin.
"That bigger piece is to bring in your MP. It is a big challenge, and he is up to the challenge," McGregor said, telling supporters to venture into the corners in which they live and sell the message of the PNP and Peterkin at bars, corner shops and in the lanes.
However, the retired senior superintendent of police advised supporters to inform the police whenever they plan to gather in public spaces.
"You are going to have your little meetings and gatherings here and there. Ensure that when you are going to do that you tell the local police," he said. "Tell them that you are going to be at this corner or that, so when they come up on the corner and see 20, 30 Comrades gathering they will know that this was going on."
