People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for Trelawny North, Dr Wykeham McNeill, has raised concerns about the poor state of the Falmouth Market.

Speaking at a PNP meeting in Albert Town on Wednesday, McNeill said the situation needs to be addressed.

"I am extremely disappointed with the condition of the market. The roof leaks, only one of four toilet stations works, and taxi drivers are reluctant to drive on the compound," he said.

"I will, when elected, fix it," he added.

Responding, Mayor of Falmouth Collen Gager said the local authority is aware of the issues and has moved to address them.

"We have some challenges at the market. Funding has been identified and it is now in procurement. I expect that we will be on the way to fixing the problems," Gager said.

The market was built by the Port Authority in 2019 at a cost of $300 million.
