Election watchdog Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) says its observers stationed at nomination centres across Jamaica reported that most nominations were completed without incident and were conducted smoothly and efficiently.

Candidates were nominated today for the September 3 general election.

In a statement on Monday, CAFFE said there were no reports of intimidation or violence, and the nomination exercise generally took place in an atmosphere of cordiality.

However, it noted that observers reported considerable traffic congestion in the vicinity of several nomination centres.

CAFFE commended the administration and staff of the Electoral Office of Jamaica for the highly professional manner in which the Nomination Day activities were handled.

The organisation said it is looking forward to the peaceful spirit demonstrated today continuing throughout the remainder of the campaign.
