Calling the health sector shoddy, the People’s National Party’s (PNP) spokesperson on health, Dr Alfred Dawes, is urging uncommitted voters to choose change, arguing that the PNP will bring better management to the country’s healthcare system.

Addressing supporters at a PNP mass rally at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay, St. James, on Sunday evening, Dawes cited shortfalls in the health sector.

He criticised the Government over the escalating cost to renovate the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay.

“Many people are undecided because they say both sides look the same, but one thing we can agree on — dem man inna Government too tief. We have the CRH that moved from $2 billion to fix, to over $22 billion... and we have people waiting in chairs for days,” asserted Dawes.

“To the uncommitted, let me ask you, the voter: suppose you wake up Thursday morning [the day after the September 3 election] and you hear that another baby dead? Or if you hear there is an accident and it is your relative? How will you feel knowing that you never made the choice for change?” asked Dawes.

“Join us in fixing healthcare in Jamaica, and come out and make this a reality.”

Dawes also said that healthcare workers in Jamaica deserve better wages and working conditions.

“Nobody knows the conditions under which we labour like healthcare workers. We know the healthcare sector can be fixed, and it will be fixed,” said Dawes.
