A 34-year-old St Catherine construction worker has been charged with rape in connection with the alleged assault of a woman who fell asleep after becoming intoxicated at a house on Christmas Day, police say.
The accused, Dave Dacres, otherwise called 'Crawb Up,' was charged by detectives assigned to the St Catherine North Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.
He has also been charged with indecent assault and assault occasioning bodily harm.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 11 p.m. on December 25, after the woman became intoxicated and fell asleep at a house in the area.
Investigators allege that Dacres sexually assaulted the woman and later attacked her with a pipe when she attempted to escape, striking her on the back.
The woman reportedly managed to evade her attacker and subsequently reported the matter to the police.
Dacres was later apprehended and taken into custody. He was formally charged on Tuesday following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney.
