Bahamas National Security Minister Wayne Munroe said the process applies to inmates convicted of non-violent and non-sexual offences.

Three men have been charged with the January 9 murder of a teacher in Gordon Pen, St Catherine, police in the St Catherine North Division have confirmed.

Charged are Tyrick Fennell, otherwise called 'Six', a garbage collector of Palmers Cross, Clarendon, Wilber Edwards, 46, otherwise called 'Twin' and 'Rolex', and Lyssons in St Thomas; and 25-year-old Jevarne Swimmer, otherwise called 'Razor', also from Lyssons.

They have been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, using a firearm to commit a scheduled offence, possession of a prohibited weapon, and being part of a criminal organisation.

Police said the men were charged on Thursday following question-and-answer sessions conducted in the presence of their attorneys.

Investigators allege that the incident occurred about 7:52 p.m. on the day in question when 44-year-old Damion Dunn, a teacher and building consultant, was driving his 2017 Suzuki Grand Vitara sports utility vehicle along Gordon Boulevard in Gordon Pen.

Upon reaching a section of the roadway, he was reportedly intercepted by the three accused travelling in a Toyota Axio motor car.

Swimmer and Fennell allegedly exited the vehicle armed with handguns and opened fire, hitting Dunn while he was seated behind the steering wheel.

The men then reportedly re-entered the vehicle, which was allegedly driven away by Edwards.

Dunn was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said investigations led to the apprehension of the accused.
