St Catherine resident Dean Dawson, who was found in the company of a wanted man last year, was found guilty of harbouring a fugitive in the parish court on Tuesday.
However, he will not serve anytime more time in prison because the 18-month sentence he got was covered by the 18 months he spent in custody before his conviction.
Dawson, who said he was a security guard, who also provided private taxi services, was arrested on January 29, 2025.
"Mr Dawson, you are found guilty. However, you have spent 18 months in custody, and the court's sentence is 18 months' imprisonment, so you are sentenced to time served," Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne said.
His attorney, Teddison Mae-Jackson, told The Gleaner that Dawson has accepted the verdict.
"I would have felt more justified if he was acquitted, but he seems alright with the verdict," Mae-Jackson said.
Before handing down the sentence, the judge told the defence that Dawson's evidence had been rejected, noting that he was engaged in an illegal business and that it was "strange" that he had just received a charter from Glendon ‘Bull’ Amos for $18,000.
The prosecution led evidence that on the date in question, police attempted to intercept a Toyota Isis motor vehicle driven by Dawson along the St Catherine leg of Highway 2000.
He disobeyed police signals and, with lights flashing and sirens blaring, officers pursued him to Moneague, St Ann, where the vehicle was stopped.
Police found Dawson in the company of Amos, who was wanted for murder and shootings in St Catherine.
Dawson was subsequently arrested and charged.
"I am a security guard. I also do charter to feed my family and even scrape concrete from trucks for a living and to provide for my family," Dawson told the court earlier this month.
