Licensed firearm holder charged for illegal hunting in St Catherine

A St Andrew licensed firearm holder has been charged for engaging in bird hunting without a permit while in St Catherine.
Forty-seven-year-old contractor Kevin Macky is charged with hunting without a permit and discharging a firearm in a public place.
The police report that about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, members of the police’s Agricultural Protection Branch received information about shots being fired in the community of Hill Run in St Catherine.
A team responded to the report, which took them to Williams Boulevard in Hill Run.
According to the police, a Toyota motor vehicle was observed, and someone allegedly attempted to close the truck.
The police say instructions were given for it to be reopened, and checks revealed 10 birds with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
A search of the vehicle revealed several spent shells, which were retrieved by the police.
The scene was also processed.
Investigators said Macky came out of a nearby house with the shotgun and identified himself.
He was informed of the offences, and the firearm was seized for ballistic testing.
Macky was arrested and subsequently charged following an interview.
A court date is being finalised.
