Island Dolls goes 'natural'

Braids, afros, for the Yuletide season and beyond

Jamaicans spoke, Island Dolls listened, analysed and delivers an exquisite line of natural hair dolls.

While Island Dolls had introduced black dolls with braided hair in Jamaica since 1993, there were very few with kinky and natural hair. Today, Island Doll's Beverley Robotham-Reynolds has been successful in delivering a complete natural-hair line.

The Natural Hair Doll line consists of fashion dolls in different skin tones dressed in crochet outfits in black, green and gold and other Afro-centric garb. The line pays tribute to Jamaica's representatives in international pageants, and includes a National costume, which follows on the 53rd Independence anniversary fashion theme, "Denim wid de Bandanna" and swimwear in the national colours. The evening gowns which adorns the dolls are just stunning.

Not to be outdone are the cloth dolls for the little ones with Bantu knots ('Chiney bumps') and natural-hair puffs.

For many adults today, when they were growing up, black dolls were non-existent. But today, our little ones have dolls they can identify and play with from the Island Dolls Collection.

As the yuletide season approaches, whether you are looking for stocking stuffers for your daughter, mother, or even to treat yourself at home or abroad - your natural hair doll can be found at My Jamaica, Sun Island outlets, the Craft Cottage in Kingston, and at shops at both International Airports. The dolls can also be ordered online.
