Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has commended Jamaica's Senior National Football for a strong performance in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final on Sunday, July 26, and in the tournament overall.

"I congratulate all members of the team and coaching staff under the leadership of head coach Winfried Sch‰fer for the strong second-place finish and an overall solid and encouraging performance throughout the tournament," the prime minister said.

Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesperson on Sports, Information, Gender Affairs, Culture and Entertainment, Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, also congratulated the Reggae Boyz.

"I know a lot of Jamaicans are disappointed with the failure to win the cup, but we must be buoyed by the overall performance of the team during the tournament. We should be happy to have split the two so-called giants of CONCACAF football - Mexico and the United States - and showing that we are capable of competing with the best teams in the region and, by extension, therefore, the best teams in the world," Grange said.
