Tridents lose again in CPL

Kieron Pollard extended his great form, but rain dealt Barbados Tridents a cruel blow with a 17-run defeat to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots under Duckworth-Lewis in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) here Friday night.

Sent in at Warner Park, the Tridents mustered a competitive 168 for six off their 20 overs, with Pollard top-scoring with an unbeaten 63 off 40 balls.

Opener Dwayne Smith chipped in with 33, Pakistani Shoaib Malik got 29, while Nicholas Pooran scored 20.

Leg-spinner Samuel Badree picked up two for 27 to lead Patriots.

In reply, the hosts had reached 84 for one when rain arrived at the halfway stage of the innings to end play prematurely, 17 runs ahead of the par score.

Captain Chris Gayle was unbeaten on 38 while Mohammed Hafeez ended 30 not out. The left-handed Gayle clubbed four fours and two sixes off 25 balls, while Hafeez faced 29 deliveries and struck four boundaries.

The victory was the fourth in five outings for Patriots and it left them second on eight points, while Tridents slipped to their third defeat and lie fourth on four points.
