JCA T20: Daley stars for JDF
Kevin Daley put in an excellent effort, first with the bat and then with the ball, to help the Jamaica Defence Force defeat Kensington CC by 76 runs in their quarterfinal encounter in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) T20 bashment at Chedwin Park yesterday.
Daley sent down four overs and claimed four wickets for 12 runs, including a maiden, to blow away Kensington for just 77 runs in 16.5 overs, chasing 153 to win.
The formidable total was always going to be a tough ask for the Kensington batters in conditions that were not the easiest for stroke play due to the heavy wind.
Things got off to a bad start as Kensington lost openers Danniel Griffiths and Leroy Lugg for seven and 16 runs, respectively, with just 29 runs on the board in the sixth over.
Wickets continued to tumble as Daley sent back Ryan Francis for four before he trapped Jamie Hay leg before wicket for two before having Alex Hinds caught for five.
Wicket-keeper Llewellyn Campbell made 16, however, the damage was already done with pacer Gordon Bryan picking up the final wicket, that of Tamari Redwood for two, to finish with two for 19.
Earlier, Daley came up big with the bat, scoring 38 runs from 29 balls with two fours and two sixes in the army men’s total of 152 for six.
Bryan also helped himself to some handy lower-order runs, hitting 29 not out with one four and two sixes. Leighton Leslie chipped in with 27 against two wickets for 28 runs from Ryan Francis.
In the earlier quarter-final match, Police defeated Kingston Cricket Club by 24 runs. Police first made 132 for six in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Kingston to 109 for nine.
