Knight, Rowe win 400m hurdles at Florida meet

Jamaicans Andrenette Knight and Shawn Rowe picked up wins in the 400 metres hurdles at last Saturday’s Star Athletics Sprint Series in Montverde, Florida.

Knight, who has been very consistent in the event this season, raced to a season’s best 53.84 seconds to become the fastest Jamaican woman so far this season over the barriers, where she is now ranked number five on the World Athletics top list. American Anna Cockrell (54.20) and Gianna Woodruff (56.29) finished second and third, respectively.

Rowe (49.08) got the better of compatriot Jaheel Hyde (49.70)in the men’s event with American Quivell Jordan Bacot getting third in 49.99. Two other Jamaicans, Marvin Williams (50.23) and Sean Kalawan (50.57) were fourth and fifth respectively in the event .

American Sha’Carri Richardson, the world leader in the 100m, continued her impressive form in the event as she won in a wind-aided 10.73 seconds. Americans Britany Green (10.80) and Twaneisha Terry (10.82) took second and third, respectively.

Adejah Hodge of the British Virgin Island was also a winner on the day as she romped to victory in the 200 metres in 22.60 seconds to get the better of American Candace Hill, who was second in 22.68.

Another American, Tonea Marshall, won the 100m hurdles in 12.47 seconds. Britain’s Cindy Sember was second in 12.88, while Gabbi Cunningham of the United States was third in 12.94.

Jamaica’s Junelle Bromfield was fourth in the 400m in 52.10 seconds as Victoria Ohuruogu of Great Britain won in 50.36.

Eighteen year-old Issamade Asinga out of Suriname captured the men’s sprint double. He won the 100m in a wind-aided 9.83 (2.6mps) ahead of Aaron Brown of Canada (9.81) and America’s Kyree King (9.97).

He completed the double by taking the 200m in 20.20 ahead of Panama’s Alonso Edward, 20.54.
