Border control puts paid to Big 12’s night
Jamaican heavyweight anxious to get back into ring after 13th fight cancelled
“VERY DISAPPOINTED” were the words of Jamaican heavyweight boxer Ricardo ‘Big 12’ Brown, when he confirmed to The Gleaner yesterday,
that his fight against American boxer Colby Madison, scheduled to take place in Toronto, Canada, on Friday night, had been cancelled.
Madison was reportedly not allowed to cross the USA-Canada border.
Brown said he did not know the details regarding the restriction, but had been made aware of the cancellation by United Boxing Promotions that Madison was not given permission to enter Canada. He said he had been in training for two months and was in great shape.
“I haven’t fought since October last year, and had a two-month training camp that went very well, so I was looking forward to this, my 13th fight.
I was told by the promoter, however, that Madison was not allowed to cross the border from the USA into Canada and that the fight was off. All I am
going to do now is to continue to train, and be ready to go back into the ring as soon as possible,” said Brown.
Brown remains optimistic, however, saying he will head back to the gym tomorrow to do some light training so he can keep his edge.
He said further that he was confident that his promoter, Tyler Buxton, will schedule another fight for him soon.
“I want to have at least three fights this year, so I do not want to wait too long to fight again. There is a card scheduled for next month and I hope that I will be able to get on to that card,” he said.
The 34-year-old in the third year of his professional boxing career, has a 12-0 record, with 11 of those victories coming by was of knockout or technical
knockout. He is hoping to keep his winning streak alive this year, and position himself for a favourable ranking going into next year.
