Nettleford to speak on education in Atlanta
Well-known trade union educator, social and cultural historian, the Honourable Rex Nettleford, Vice Chancellor Emeritus at the University of the West Indies, will be the keynote speaker at the Benevolent Missions of Atlanta (BMA) fall benefit, Jazz in the Garden, in downtown Atlanta, according to a report on www.jamaicans.com.
He will be addressing the audience on September 13 at Mayfair Renaissance in Atlanta. Nettleford will speak on Jamaica\'s challenges in providing a world class Primary or Elementary school education and the role for Jamaicans who reside outside the island and friends of Jamaica.
The BMA has a successful history of giving to underserved children in the island of Jamaica and Atlanta, is aiming to help ensure that these children are prepared for a lifetime of socially responsible citizenship.
The organisation is expanding its program this fall, to the second of six targeted schools, Seaward Primary School in Kingston, where a library facility will be equipped and up to 10 students will receive scholarships.
