Lyn trial latest

Senior Puisne Judge Marva McIntosh is disappointed with the slow pace at which the trial is proceeding for the two men charged with the murder of Manchester couple Richard and Julia Lyn.

The trial which began on October 5 in the Home Circuit Court has been hampered by frequent adjournments.

The judge expressed her disappointment when the trial had to be adjourned early today because only three witnesses were available to testify.

She said a system has to be established for the case to move with more speed.

Ms McIntosh is suggesting that a senior police officer should be assigned to facilitate the court in getting the witnesses to attend when required.

She said the case will be lengthy and difficult to sum up to the jury because of the way the evidence is being led in bits and pieces.

The judge sought to assure the jury that she expects the case to move at a faster pace next week.

Crown Counsel Claudette Thompson said witnesses have travelled from abroad to testify at the trial in the Home Circuit Court but had to be sent back because of adjournments for various reasons.

Government analysts are expected to testify next week when the trial continues.

28-year-old farmer and taxi driver Lennox Swaby, of Hopeton district, Manchester and 26-year-old garbage truck driver Calvin Powell, of New Green, Manchester are charged with the double murder.

The Lyns were strangled between December 9 and 10, 2006 during a robbery at their home in Mandeville.
