Industrial action at Sangster International Airport causes flight delays
Workers at the Sangster International Airport have vowed to continue their protest action tomorrow to press their demands for the implementation of a reclassification exercise.
The action by the workers led to several flight delays today.
Two flights from Air Jamaica were affected as well as flights from Cayman Airways and American Airlines.
General Secretary of the Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UTASP) St Patrice Ennis said the reclassification exercise should have been implemented in April.
Mr Ennis said the workers are also disgruntled because the airports’ management unilaterally decided not to hire the children of employees for holiday jobs and has stopped offering scholarships.
Mr Ennis said more than 100 workers from several categories are involved in the industrial action.
Meanwhile a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow with representatives from the Labour Ministry to discuss the situation.
