JFLAG blames family abandonment for gay's 'rowdy' behaviour
Jovan Johnson, Gleaner Writer
The Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals and Gays, JFLAG says the behaviour of the homosexual men at the Millsborough community in St Andrew is symptomatic of a wider societal problem.
JFLAG makes the claim in a response to a letter from the Press Association of Jamaica, PAJ condemning Wednesday’s alleged attack on journalists by homosexual men in the area.

JFLAG’s executive director, Dane Lewis, says the behaviour of the men results from their abandonment by family and community, and the lack of critical functional skills and not by their sexual identities.
He says the incident should now become the basis on which increased efforts will be made to craft a solution to address the homeless situation of the men.
JFLAG is blasting the local media for what it calls the irresponsible reporting of issues affecting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, LGBT community in Jamaica.
Mr. Lewis says the irresponsible reporting has not only fuelled the discrimination meted out to LGBT Jamaicans but compromise the safety of employees attached to critical groups that work with the community.
He says J-FLAG remains willing and ready to partner with all agents of the state to address the challenges being faced.
