$3m bail for reputed Rose Town gang leader

Reputed leader of the Rose Town based Discipline Gang, Uriel James, has been granted $3 million bail.



James was charged with the 2004 murder of 36-year-old Sean James of Rose Town after a witness gave a statement to the police in 2011.



He was granted bail in the Resident Magistrate's court but had to re-apply for bail as his case was sent to the Home Circuit Court.



The bail application was made by Attorneys-at-Law Patrick Bailey and Alando Terrelonge.



In granting bail Justice Jennifer Straw ordered the reputed gang leader to avoid going to the Rose Town community and to report to the Constant Spring Police each Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.



A curfew order from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. was also imposed.



James, more popularly known as 'Rooksie', is facing three murder charges.



The murders were allegedly committed in 1999, 2004 and 2011.



In making the bail application James' lawyers argued that the murder charges against him are part of a grand conspiracy to keep him in custody.



They had submitted a petition signed by 35 residents of Rose Town who said James is a good man, and a business operator, and that he has assisted people in the community with employment.



The prosecution had opposed bail on the grounds that James had other charges against him and is very influential in the Rose Town community.
