Energy Minister, Clive Mullings, has summoned officials from the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), and the Office of Utilities Regulations (OUR), to a meeting this morning following yesterday’s islandwide power outage.
JPS will also be required to submit a report on the blackout to the OUR today.
Electrical power went out at approximately 6.30pm yesterday evening sending the entire island into darkness.
Director General of the OUR, J. Paul Morgan, said initial reports are that the outage was the result of a fault on a JPS power line at the Tredegar Sub Station in St. Catherine.
The last islandwide power outage occurred on July 4, 2007, nearly a year after the country was affected by a similar outage on July 15, 2006.
