Residents protest against poor roadway

Residents of the Westgreen Housing Scheme in Catherine Hall, St. James this morning staged a demonstration to protest against the poor condition of the roadway leading to the community.

The residents said that for the past six years they have been making representations to their Member of Parliament, Clive Mullings but to date nothing has been done to alleviate the problem.

Five schools in the community had to suspend classes as a result of the protest.

The Salvation Army, which operates several centres in the community, was also forced to suspend its services.

Major in Charge of the Salvation Army’s Western Region, Keith Graham, said the condition of the roadway is now posing a health hazard for residents of the community.

A contingent of police personnel is monitoring the protest.
