Chinese delegation is expected in the island today

A Chinese delegation is expected in the island today to continue discussions with government regarding the rehabilitation of Jamaica’s railway services.

Transport Minister, Mike Henry said he would be seeking to have the rail service linked to the country’s bus service.

The rail service was abandoned 15 years ago.

The former PNP administration had negotiations with Rail India and Economic Services to resume the service. However, the negotiations were later shelved following delays on the proposed joint venture.

In 2005, the then PNP government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese government for the rehabilitation of the service.
