The Secretariat of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has announced it intends to refer Dr Garfield James to its Selection Committee and Central Executive as its candidate for Western Westmoreland.

The referral is to be made following a selection exercise in the constituency on Sunday, which the JLP says resulted in James emerging with a majority of the votes.

James challenged incumbent member of parliament Moreland Wilson for the opportunity to represent the JLP in the constituency.

Jamaica Labour Party General Secretary, Dr Horace Chang says he is confident that unity will prevail among JLP members in Western Westmoreland following the selection exercise.

The JLP general secretary also says he remains confident in the candidate selection processes being deployed by the party, which present an opportunity for party workers and delegates to make their voices heard.

He says the processes involve a constituency audit, polling, consultation with workers and delegates and a selection exercise.

Chang says the processes reiterate that democracy is alive and well in the Jamaica Labour Party.
