Electricity has been restored to over 300,000 Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) customers since Hurricane Melissa battered mainly the western end of the country late last month, the power company has disclosed.

This means that 64 per cent of JPS customers now have electricity, said President and Chief Executive Officer of JPS, Hugh Grant.

JPS is the sole distributor of electricity in Jamaica.

Grant revealed, too, that power has been restored to Sangster International Airport and other areas in Montego Bay, St James.

“This is a solid achievement given the level of unprecedented devastation that we saw,” he said during a special media briefing at Jamaica House on Tuesday.

Grant said electricity is expected to be restored in parts of Trelawny later this week.

Further, electricity is expected to be restored in sections of Westmoreland and St Elizabeth in about two weeks, he said.
