Senegal blank Iraq 5-0 to boost hopes of reaching KO round

TORONTO (AP):

Senegal racked up the goals on 10-man Iraq in a 5-0 victory yesterday that boosted their hopes of reaching the World Cup knockout stages.
Pape Gueye scored two second-half goals as the Senegalese — vying to advance from third place in Group I — took advantage of a first-half red card on Iraq defender Rebin Sulaka for preventing Sadio Mane from going in on goal alone.

Thompson-Herah storms to victory in Zagreb

ELAINE THOMPSON-HERAH stormed to meet record 10.91 seconds in the women's 100 metres  at the Boris Hanzekovic Memorial meet in Zagreb yesterday.
  Thompson-Herah erased lingering doubts about her current fitness when she ran past her rivals in the final 20 metres of the event. Countrywoman Brianna Lyston finished second in 10.94 to equal her season's best, and  Ewa Swoboda of Poland was third in a season's best 10.98.

United Oil presses Jamaica farm-out as Strait of Hormuz ‘closure’ reprices prospect

Offshore oil exploration firm United Oil & Gas Plc expects to secure a joint-venture partner by October, according to its full-year results published this week.

The company cited the disruption to global oil supply caused by the “effective closure” of the Strait of Hormuz as a factor sharpening investor interest in its Jamaica licence.

A too-little-known or appreciated fact is that Jamaica is among the world’s leaders in research and understanding and treatment of sickle cell disease.
Indeed, people in Jamaica who have sickle cell, a disease that primarily affects black populations. According to the medical journal Lanclet, the Caribbean has the highest incidence of the disease outside of west Africa.
