A St Mary man has been charged for stealing over 200 pineapples from a farm in the parish.
He is 37-year-old taxi operator Anthony Taylor, otherwise known as ‘Waggy’, of Nutsfield in Islington, who is charged with larceny.
Reports are that about 10:45 a.m. on January 14, a police team was contacted by security personnel at the property, who informed them that they observed men stealing produce from the farm.
Upon the arrival of the police, a search of the property was carried out, and 74 dry coconuts, four empty bags, and a machete were discovered where the men were seen.
Shortly after that discovery, a Toyota Probox was seen at another section of the farm being loaded with pineapples, the police reported.
According to the police, the driver, upon seeing the lawmen, sped off in the direction of Robinson Bay.
The police say he was pursued and was later apprehended at his home and found in possession of over 200 pineapples.
He was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
His court date is being finalised.
