Gleaner journalists bag big share of 2025 journalism award nominations

Journalists from The Gleaner Company (Media) Limited have secured a significant share of the nominations for the 2025 National Journalism Awards, organised by the Press Association of Jamaica, with reporters, columnists, and photographers from the company appearing across a wide range of categories.
The nominations span major awards including Journalist of the Year, investigative journalism, feature writing, breaking news coverage, sports reporting, Young Journalist of the Year, and specialised beats such as technology, agriculture, and environmental reporting.
Among those nominated for the coveted Journalist of the Year Award are Andre Williams, Jovan Johnson, and Kimone Francis of The Gleaner.
Several journalists from the organisation also secured multiple nominations across categories.
Jovan Johnson leads the field among the company’s nominees with eight category nominations, while Andre Williams earned six, and Kimone Francis and Corey Robinson secured five each.
Reporters from the company are also strongly represented in the Hector Bernard/Theodore Sealy Award for News Journalism – Print category, with Corey Robinson, Tiffany Pryce (The Star), Jovan Johnson, Tanesha Mundle, Kimone Francis, Christopher Thomas, Simone Morgan-Lindo (The Star), and Andre Williams among those shortlisted.
In the electronic category for news journalism, La Tania-Jonelle Hall of The Gleaner Company is among the nominees.
In sports journalism, Andre Williams, Tiffany Pryce (The Star), and Ashley Anguin are nominated for the Hugh Crosskill/Raymond Sharpe Award for Sports Journalism – Print.
Pryce and Ashanti Lawson (The Star) are nominated for Young Journalist of the Year.
The organisation also secured nominations in several specialised reporting categories.
Kimone Francis, Rasbert Turner, Jovan Johnson, and Corey Robinson are nominated for the Award for Excellence in Reporting on the Environment, while Livern Barrett and Andre Williams are nominated for the Award for Excellence in Reporting on Technology.
Jovan Johnson is also nominated for the Award for Excellence in Reporting on Agriculture.
Photographers from the organisation were also recognised, with Ashley Anguin and Antoine Lodge shortlisted for the Aston Rhoden Award for News Photography.
Anguin and Matthew McKoy are nominated for the Junior Dowie Award for Sports Photography, while McKoy and Lodge are also shortlisted for the Errol Harvey Award for Human Interest Photography.
David R. Salmon is nominated for the Morris Cargill Award for Opinion Journalism.
The winners will be announced during the National Journalism Awards ceremony, scheduled for Saturday at the S Hotel in Kingston, beginning at 8 p.m.
The ceremony marks the culmination of activities for National Journalism Week, hosted by the Press Association of Jamaica.
