A St Catherine teenager who collected rent for a house which she did not own pleaded guilty to larceny by trick when she appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.
Nineteen-year-old Racquelia Irons will know her fate on July 31, when she is scheduled to reappear in the parish court.
Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle has ordered her to repay the money to the victim before her reappearance in court.
"This action will aid in the sentence of the court," Nelson-Gayle said.
The court was told that on November 27, 2025 Irons advertised a house for rent for $45,000 and the complainant responded to the newspaper ad.
Irons gave her a tour of the premises in Portmore and collected $90,000, which represented one month's rent and one month's security deposit.
The complainant was issued a receipt for the sum.
The complainant was scheduled to occupy the premises on November 30, 2025, however, Irons became elusive and the police were contacted.
Following an investigation, Irons was apprehended and pointed out by the complainant on December 8, 2025.
Irons is represented by attorney Abina Morris.
