PNP accuses gov’t of partisan politics in Black River rebuilding talks

The Opposition People's National Party (PNP) has accused the Government of engaging in partisan politics during a recent Black River, St Elizabeth, rebuilding stakeholder engagement held in the town.

The PNP says its Councillor for the Black River Division, Dwight Salmon, was excluded from the talks.

The party stated that Councillor Derrick Sangster, who represents the ruling Jamaica Labour Party, was invited and brought greetings at a second stakeholder engagement meeting held in Parottee, which falls in his division.

PNP General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell, in a media release on Monday, argued that Salmon was sidelined and took issue with how he was treated.

"This is not an oversight. It is partisan politics," he charged.

"If the Councillor for Mountainside was rightly invited to the stakeholder meeting held in his own division at Parottee, there is no justification for excluding the Councillor for Black River from the stakeholder meeting held in his own division," he added.

Campbell argued that good governance demands consistency and transparency.

The PNP wants the Government, through the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRRA), to clarify the criteria for participation in Black River's recovery consultations and to ensure every elected representative is properly engaged going forward.
