The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has dismissed as false a graphic circulating on social media and WhatsApp claiming that a four-day system outage would affect Kingston and Portmore, St Catherine, beginning tonight.

The company said this evening it had not scheduled any such outage and that customers did not need to make preparations for one.

The graphic was designed to resemble a news post from The Gleaner, JPS said, warning customers against sharing the notice.

“Any planned outage affecting your area will be communicated directly by JPS, in advance, through our official channels,” the company said.

JPS urged customers to verify outage notices on its official pages before sharing them, particularly when the information does not originate from the electricity provider.

Persons should also visit official Gleaner platforms to verify whether posts originated from the media company.

JPS did not specify who created or circulated the graphic, however it was not published by The Gleaner.
