The health minister Rudyard Spencer has ordered an immediate audit and investigation into the approval process for session and on call payments for medical groups in the public health sector.
At a meeting with representatives of various medical groups on Friday, Mr. Spencer informed them of possible irregularities related to the approval of the payments.
The health minister was careful to point out that the investigation will not be targeting any specific group of workers.
Mr. Spencer says he has been receiving reports that payments are being authorized by persons who are not the designated authorizing officers.
As a result he says the investigation is to ensure the situation is immediately corrected.
