NWU welcomes proposed IDT changes

The National Workers Union, (NWU) has welcomed proposed changes to the regulations governing the Industrial Disputes Tribunal, (IDT), which will allow individuals to appear before the dispute resolution body.



The labour minister Pearnel Charles is this week expected to lead a debate on the proposed amendments in the House of Representatives.



The amendments if passed will for the first time allow individuals who are not unionized to take their matters to the IDT.



Currently, only persons with union representation are allowed to bring matters to the tribunal.



NWU president Vincent Morrison says the changes should allow for equity for all categories of Jamaican workers.



But Mr. Morrison is warning that workers should not expect the amendment to fully satisfy all their dispute resolution needs:
