The Opposition Leader of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto has been killed.

The 54-year-old politician was killed in suicide bombing in Rawalpindi shortly after addressing hundreds of supporters. Twenty-two other people were killed in the attack.

Miss Bhutto, who served as Prime Minister for two terms, returned to Pakistan only a few months ago having spent 8 years in a self imposed exile.

There is now uncertainty whether the January 8 Parliamentary elections will go ahead as scheduled.

K. Raja-go-pala Chari, the Acting Indian High Commissioner to Jamaica, says his government will be moving to strengthen the fight against terrorism. Pakistani businessman in Jamaica, Alvi Quasim says the assassination of Mrs. Bhutto is a devastating blow to the Pakistani community.
