Spencer and Montague to tour RIU

Minister of Health and Environment, Rudyard Spencer and State Minister with responsibility for Local Government, Robert Montague are expected to inspect the RIU hotel in Mammee Bay St. Ann today.

The inspection follows concern from residents of the neighbouring Mammee Bay Beach Club, that the hotel is polluting the beach area.

The residents claimed that the hotel has been releasing sewage into the sea, affecting the health of bathers.

On Monday, Mr. Spencer held a meeting with key government agencies to discuss the concerns raised by the residents.

The health and environment minister also instructed the agencies to provide a report containing copies of correspondences between the hotel and the agencies.

The minister was to receive the report yesterday.
