FRAUD! JUTC discovers ticket scam

Published:Saturday | October 5, 2013 | 5:14 PM

Unscrupulous persons have been fraudulently issuing Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) tickets on passenger buses.

The JUTC says these instances include: Sale of concessionary tickets to adult passengers, resale of old tickets, sale of test tickets and sale of blank tickets.

The transport company further says, individual have been selling tickets that have been tampered with by the application of heat to the thermal paper on which the ticket is printed, hence darkening the ticket.

Individuals have also been sold photocopied tickets and tickets with incorrect times and routes.

Passengers have been advised to only use tickets issued directly from the ticket machines on their buses, unless an emergency ticket is issued - which would be in the event the ticket machine is malfunctioning.

Passengers have been advised not to accept tickets that they have not seen issued from the ticket machine or from the emergency ticket book.

Passengers have been advised to keep their tickets on their person at all times until they disembark the buses.
