As of tomorrow minimum wage earners will receive an increase in pay.

The minimum wage will be increased from J$5,000 to J$5,600 for a 40-hour workweek.

Labour and Social Security Minister Derrick Kellier had announced the increase on December 16.

The minimum wage paid to industrial security guards will also be increased from J$7,320.40 to J$8,198.80 for a 40-hour workweek and should take effect tomorrow, in spite of a request by the Jamaica Society for Industrial Security for the effective date for the increase to be delayed by a month.

Security guards will also get a laundry allowance increase to J$37.30, up from J$33.30 per hour. Additionally, firearm premium allowance payable to security guards will go up, from J$36.60 to J$41 per hour.
