Man shot by police in St Andrew succumbs to injuries

A 20-year-old man who was shot and injured during an alleged confrontation with the police yesterday in Top Maryland district, St Andrew, has succumbed to his injuries.

He is Shamar Fletcher.

Reports are that about 3 a.m. an operation was conducted in the area during which the police were allegedly fired on.

The fire was reportedly returned and when the shooting subsided, a search of the area was conducted.

The police say Fletcher was found lying face down with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head and a firearm beside him.

He was taken to the University Hospital of The West Indies.

He succumbed later on Tuesday.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing this fatal shooting.

As at October 22, there have been 248 fatal shootings.

Some 51 cops have also been charged between 2024 and 2025 following INDECOM investigations.

Meanwhile, the St Andrew North police division seized over 50 firearms since the start of the year in the quest to rid the division of illegal guns, gunmen and wanted persons.

The following persons are wanted in the division for murder:

1. Fabian Watson, also called Bulla and Tristan, a welder of Florence Hill, St Andrew and Gregory Park, St Catherine.

2. Shevon Matthews, also called Max of Zambia, of Central Village and Blue Hole district, Red Hills, St Andrew

3. Kemar Samuda, also called Scamma and Choppa, of a 104 Red Hills Road, Kingston 19 address

4. Emar Grinham, also called Bully Beef, of 128 Barbican Road, Kgn 8.

5. Kenroy Willis, also called Papa, of a Lawrence Tavern address in Sr. Andrew is wanted for murder and a person of interest in several other shootings and murders

These men are asked to turn themselves in to the Constant Spring CIB or the nearest Police Station.
