Ex-soldier allegedly held with illegal gun
The police arrested an ex-Jamaica Defence force (JDF) soldier on Wednesday morning after he was allegedly held in a bar with an illegal firearm.
Reports reaching The Gleaner are that about 12:18 a.m. a team assigned to the St Andrew North police division went to a bar located on Red Hills Road, Kingston 19, in the vicinity of Park Lane.
The suspect reportedly aroused the suspicion of the police and he was accosted.
During a search, a firearm was allegedly removed from his waistband.
The Gleaner was told that the illegal gun was a Black Smith and Wesson CZP-10C.
The ex-soldier was taken into custody and is expected to be charged soon.
Head of the St Andrew North police, Superintendent Randy Sweeney, confirmed the arrest and told The Gleaner this was the 55th gun seizure in the division so far this year.
“We are appealing to anyone with information surrounding illegal firearms, ammunition, criminal suspects or any criminal activities in the space to contact the police at 119 or the Constant Spring police station at 876-924-1421,” Superintendent Sweeney told The Gleaner.
