'Stop it!' - KSAMC condemns destruction of entertainment billboards

The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has condemned what it says is the deliberate destruction of billboards advertising entertainment events, warning that the practice will not be tolerated.

The municipal authority said it has been made aware of several incidents involving the vandalism of legally placed promotional material, with the most recent report received today along Waterloo Road, across from South Avenue in St Andrew.

"This behaviour is wrong and is strongly condemned by the KSAMC. We are calling on individuals to stop engaging in these acts immediately," the authority said in a statement on Tuesday. "Members of the public who witness this behaviour are encouraged to take photographs, where it is safe to do so, and report the matter to the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, also condemned the actions, noting the wider economic impact.

“Stop it! The entertainment sector, like many other industries, is already feeling the impact of Hurricane Melissa. Acts like these are unhelpful and only increase costs for party promoters who are already under pressure. We have to be sensitive to the wider consequences of our actions,” the mayor said.

The KSAMC stressed that it will not tolerate the destruction of legally placed promotional material and warned that where offenders are identified, the matter will be reported to the police for further action.
