A 25-year-old higgler has been charged with the stabbing-murder of a taxi operator in Runaway Bay, St Ann, following a dispute after a collision involving their vehicles on January 14, the police say.

The accused is Demario Ferguson, also called ‘Mari’, of Clark's Lane in Bounty Hall, Trelawny.

According to the St Ann’s Bay Police, the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. last Wednesday. Ferguson reportedly reversed a Toyota Axio motor car and struck a Toyota Probox operated by 49-year-old Paul Miller of Mount Edgecombe, Runaway Bay.

A tussle ensued between Ferguson and Miller, during which Miller was stabbed in the neck. He was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries, a police statement said.

Police said Ferguson and three companions fled the scene, but the vehicle later crashed along the Runaway Bay main road.

Officers intercepted the men and transported them to the hospital for treatment.

Following further investigation and a question-and-answer session, Ferguson was formally charged with murder.
