Detectives assigned to the St Catherine North Police Division have launched an investigation into the murder of a 23-year-old man in Linstead on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Tyreese Richards, a labourer of Time and Patience district in the parish.

Reports are that around 5:30 a.m. Richards was at a stall on Fletcher’s Avenue in Linstead when he was pounced upon by two armed men who opened fire, hitting him multiple times.

Police were summoned and Richards was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest, hands and upper body. He was taken to the Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No motive has yet been established for the killing.

The Linstead Criminal Investigation Branch is probing the matter.

Police say this brings the division’s murder toll to eight so far this year, compared to 13 for the similar period last year.
