South Trelawny residents call for action as Hurricane Melissa road breakaways remain unrepaired

Residents in South Trelawny are raising concerns over worsening road conditions caused by breakaways caused by Hurricane Melissa last October, expressing frustration that promised repairs have yet to materialise.
The hurricane reportedly left 16 breakaways across sections of South Trelawny, including along the roadway linking Albert Town and Lorrimers.
Residents say, despite assurances that the damaged sections would be rebuilt, little has been done months later.
Among those voicing concern is Hugh Dixon, who regularly travels the roadway between Albert Town and Christiana in Manchester.
He described the route as increasingly hazardous as sections continue to deteriorate.
“The roadway is treacherous. Each day, there is more breakaway. It is getting more dangerous as the single lane to pass is getting smaller each day. I hope that with the hurricane season approaching, we will be spared,” Dixon said.
Another resident, Runnell Williams, said the lack of attention to the damaged roadways has left motorists at risk, particularly drivers unfamiliar with the area.
“Each day I drive by I envision a vehicle running down the gully. The grass has covered them. We who know where they are can avoid them, but an unsuspecting driver could be in trouble,” Williams said.
Councillor for the Lorrimers Division, Winston Smith, is calling for the authorities to address the problem.
“We got no allowance to do any work. I hope there will be no hurricane to worsen the situation,” Smith said.
