Motorists and other road users are being urged by the National Works Agency (NWA) to exercise extreme caution along roadways during periods of heavy rainfall.

The agency says it stands ready to dispatch teams to emergencies.

Jamaica is currently experiencing inclement weather, which the Meteorological Service of Jamaica reported is due to a broad trough, which it said is to bring unstable showers and thunderstorms across the island through Saturday.

The NWA, in an advisory today, warned that severe weather conditions could lead to flooding, landslides, fallen rocks and trees, potentially affecting road conditions and access.

Therefore, road users are being advised against attempting to cross flooded roadways.

The NWA is also urging motorists to remain alert, particularly in hilly areas where landslides could affect road corridors, and to reduce their speed.

The agency said it continues to monitor the road network and is prepared to deploy emergency teams and equipment where necessary to maintain access and assist with public safety.
