Two finals will be contested on today's opening day of the three-day Tastee National Preparatory Schools Track and Field Championships at the National Stadium starting at 8:30 a.m.

They are the girls' Class Two high jump and the Class Two girls' long jump.

Five new schools will contest this year's 40th staging, bringing the overall number of participating teams to 61. Defending champions Hydel Prep will be seeking a 12th straight and 18th title overall.

Corey Bennett. head coach of Hydel, said his team would be fighting hard to retain their title.

"I am not as confident as in former years, as our preparations are way below what we are accustomed to," said Bennett. "Nonetheless, we are the defending champions and we are expected to go there and fight like champions," Bennett said.

Tara Goulbourne, marketing manager at title sponsor Tastee, recently announced a combined $4 million sponsorship inclusive of a $400,000 scholarship package, while pointing out her organisation's partnership with the Jamaica Independent Schools Association and Prep Champs.
