Policewoman injured in accidental shooting at her home in Portmore

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Portmore police in St Catherine are conducting separate investigations into the reported accidental shooting of a policewoman at her home in Greater Portmore.

It is reported that about 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday, the policewoman was at her home when her licensed Glock 19 pistol reportedly fell from her bed.

It is further reported that she attempted to catch the falling weapon and her finger accidentally entered the trigger guard, causing the firearm to discharge.

The bullet reportedly injured her index finger.

She was subsequently assisted in seeking medical attention.

The matter was reported to the police and the scene was processed by investigators.

The weapon has been seized.
